Stereo Total was formed in 1992 in Berlin by the German Brezel Goring (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and the French Francoise Cactus (vocals, guitar, drums). The duo, which mixed punk, disco, new wave, electro and French music in their fun music, gained international notoriety after the release of the album Musique Automatique in 2001.

On February 17, 2021, Françoise Cactus died of breast cancer at the age of 57. Also in 2021, Brezel Göring announced the end of the band.

Ah! Quel Cinéma!, 2019 album, was the last studio work by Stereo Total.
