English singer Denise Johnson, known mainly for her collaborations with the band Primal Scream between 1990 and 1995, died at 56 on Monday. British media reports say the singer died suddenly after catching an undisclosed illness.
Denise Johnson's voice can be heard on the classic Screamadelica album released in 1991 by Primal Scream. On the track "Don't Fight It, Feel It", she collaborates with the main vocals.
The singer also collaborated with A Certain Ratio, New Order, Pet Shop Boys and Electronic, a musical project from the early 1990s created by Bernard Sumner of New Order and Johnny Marr of the Smiths.
The first solo album Denise Johnson, entitled Where Does It Go, was planned to be released in September, bringing together her own compositions and covers by Manchester artists such as Smiths, 10cc and New Order.
