Morre Lux Interior, vocalista da banda The Cramps

O vocalista do grupo The Cramps, Lux Interior, morreu na manhã desta quarta-feira (4), aos 62 anos, em decorrência de um problema no coração, informou o site da MTV americana.

Interior, cujo verdadeiro nome era Erick Lee Purkhiser, fundou o Cramps em 1972 com a guitarrista Poison Ivy, com quem veio a se casar. Em 1975, o casal se mudou para Nova York, onde participou da cena punk da cidade, que surgiu nos arredores do lendário clube CBGB, que fechou as portas em 2006. Apesar de ter sido criada dentro do contexto do punk rock, o Cramps se distinguia dos demais grupos da época. A inspiração da banda eram filmes B, produções de terror e fetichismo. Os shows da banda, cuja formação original contava ainda com o guitarrista Bryan Gregory e Pam Ballan na bateria, era bastante teatrais, e o som mesclava blues e rockabilly. Essa característica associada aos vocais de Interior fizeram com que o Cramps fosse considerado um dos pioneiros da psychobilly e do horror rock, influenciando conjuntos como Black Lips, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, The Reverend Horton Heat e The Horrors.

O Cramps lançou 13 álbuns de estúdio, sendo que o último foi "Fiends of Dope Island", de 2003. Lux Interior e Poison Ivy eram os membros fixos do grupo, que contou com vários bateristas, guitarristas e baixistas. A última formação do Cramps tinha Harry Drumdini na bateria e Sean Yseult no baixo. (Folha OnLine)
