Formed in 1996, after Fernando Catatau — a musician from Ceará — moved to São Paulo, Cidadão Instigado has established one of the most unique careers in Brazilian independent music. Led by the songwriter, singer, and guitarist, the project blends psychedelic and experimental rock with elements of Northeastern Brazilian music, 1970s Brazilian rock, and cheesy popular romantic ballads.
Following a debut EP in 1998, the band released its first album, O Ciclo da De.Cadência, in 2002. This was followed by Cidadão Instigado e o Método Tufo de Experiências (2005), UHUUU! (2009) and Fortaleza (2015).
After an 11-year hiatus, the group returned in March 2026 with Cidadão Instigado, their fifth studio album and the first self-titled album of their career. Released by RISCO and Nublu Records, the album celebrates the project’s 30th anniversary and expands on the band’s signature psychedelic sound by incorporating electronic experimentation and lo-fi textures.
