The American band Rage Against the Machine, formed in 1991 in Los Angeles, established its history in the music scene of that decade with a peculiar style, mixing rap, hardcore, funk and metal with political lyrics. Its core members included vocalist Zack de la Rocha and guitarist Tom Morello. Bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk completed its lineup.

The track "Killing in the Name", a song against police violence, was the highlight of the self-titled debut album, released in 1992.

The band released three more albums — Evil Empire (1996), The Battle of Los Angeles (1999) and Renegades (2000). Despite the announced end in 2000, Rage Against the Machine made sporadic comebacks to perform a few concerts.
