Emerging in the first half of the 2020s in London, with a theatrical aesthetic and baroque indie pop, The Last Dinner Party was surrounded by hype that led the band to become known in a short time, starting with its formation in 2021 with Abigail Morris (vocals), Lizzie Mayland (vocals, guitar), Emily Roberts (lead guitar, mandolin, flute), Georgia Davies (bass) and Aurora Nishevci (keyboards, vocals). However, its origins began in 2018, when Morris, Davies and Mayland met and began to nurture the idea of forming a band. Initially, the name adopted was The Dinner Party, inspired by the idea of a perverse celebration at a hedonistic banquet.

In 2023, after signing with Island Records, the band released their debut single, "Nothing Matters," produced by James Ford (Simian Mobile Disco), who also produced their debut album, Prelude to Ecstasy, released in February 2024. A month earlier, they had won the BBC Sound of 2024 vote.

Prelude to Ecstasy was nominated for the Mercury Prize, but the award went to This Could Be Texas by the band English Teacher.

The Last Dinner Party didn't take long to work on their second album, which was to be produced by James Ford, but he stepped away from the project to undergo health treatment after being diagnosed with leukemia. Produced by Markus Dravs, From the Pyre was released in October 2025.
