English singer Tahliah Debrett Barnett, born on January 16, 1988, and of Jamaican and Spanish descent, began gaining recognition in the music scene at age 17 as a dancer, appearing in music videos for artists such as Jessie J, Ed Sheeran, and Kylie Minogue. Using the stage name Twigs, she released EP1, a four-track EP, in 2012 on Bandcamp.
Due to the existence of another artist with the name Twigs, she changed it to FKA twigs. FKA is an abbreviation of the expression "Formerly Known As".
In September 2013, FKA twigs released EP2 on Young Turks, the label that also released her debut album, LP1, in August 2014. Primarily situated within the alternative R&B genre, the young English artist's debut album was critically acclaimed. In 2015, she released the EP M3LL155X.
Magdalene, the artist's second album, came out in 2019. Her third and fourth studio albums, Eusexua and Eusexua Afterglow, were released in 2025.
