The Weeknd is the stage name for Canadian singer / songwriter / producer Abel Makkonen Tesfaye. Born on February 16, 1990, Tesfaye launched in 2011 three acclaimed mixtapes: House of Balloons, Thursday and Echoes of Silence. Tracks from these works were remastered and included on the Trilogy compilation, released the following year. The artist's music flirts with soul, hip hop, funk and modern rock.
Kiss Land, her debut studio album, was released in September 2013. Beauty Behind the Madness (2015) and Starboy (2016) followed. The Weeknd returned in 2020 with the critically acclaimed album After Hours, which featured the hit "Blinding Lights". In January 2022, he released Dawn FM. Her fifth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, arrived in 2025 featuring collaborations with Justice ("Wake Me Up"), Anitta ("São Paulo"), Florence and the Machine ("Reflections Laughing"), Lana Del Rey ("The Abyss"), among others.
