Formed in 1984 in São Paulo by Fabio Golfetti and Claudio Souza, two former members of the original Zero lineup, and Angelo Pastorello, Violeta de Outono became one of the leading bands of the São Paulo underground scene in the 1980s. Their music flirts with psychedelic and progressive rock. Pink Floyd, the Beatles, and Gong are some of the group's self-proclaimed influences.
Their first EP, with three songs and featuring only the band's name on the cover, was released in 1986 by the legendary Wop Bop Records label. In 1987, RCA released the band's first LP, Violeta De Outono.
Their second album, Em Toda Parte, was released in 1989. In the early 1990s, Violeta de Outono scaled back its activities due to Fábio Golfetti dedicating himself to the instrumental project Ópera Invisível. The band returned in 1994 for a show at the São Paulo Cultural Center and began working on new songs. However, an album with new songs, Mulher na Montanha, only arrived in 1999. Prior to that, in 1995, a CD compilation featuring the band's first two albums was released, and in 1996, the album Eclipse was released, featuring footage of the 1986 concert launching their first EP at the SESC Pompéia theater in São Paulo, along with bonus tracks.
Six years later, in 2005, Violeta de Outono released an album with new songs. Ilhas was released on the Voiceprint Brazil label. In 2007, the band released the album Volume 7. This was followed by Espectro (2010) and Spaces (2016). In 2022, the band re-recorded songs written between 1992 and 2002, which were released on Outro Lado, released that same year.
