Emerging from the Britpop movement in the 1990s, The Cast didn't achieve the same level of success as their contemporaries Oasis and Blur, but they did gain considerable popularity in the UK, partly due to the success of singles like "Fine Time," "Walkaway," and especially the hit "Alright."
The band was formed in 1992 in Liverpool by John Power (vocals, guitar) and Peter Wilkinson (bass, backing vocals) after Power left The La's. In 1993, Liam "Skin" Tyson (guitar) and Keith O'Neill (drums) joined the band.
With a contract with Polydor Records, The Cast released the album All Change in 1995, which at the time became one of the label's best-selling albums. The group continued to achieve commercial success with their subsequent albums, Mother Nature Calls (1997) and Magic Hour (1999). However, their fourth album, Beetroot (2001), didn't do well on the British charts, and the band split up a month after its release.
In 2010, Cast reunited for a UK and US tour, held in 2011 to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the release of All Change. This return resulted in a new album, Troubled Times, which arrived in 2011. Following that, the band released Kicking Up the Dust (2017), Love Is the Call (2024), and Yeah Yeah Yeah (2026).
