Vespas Mandarinas

Formed in 2009 in the city of São Paulo by guitarists and vocalists Chuck Hipolitho and Thadeu Meneghini, the band Vespas Mandarinas draws primarily on indie rock and Brazilian rock from the 1980s. Throughout its career, the project has gone through various lineups, blending the energy of rock with catchy pop melodies.

Their debut came with the EP Da Doo Ron Ron (2010), followed by Sasha Grey (2011). Their first studio album, Animal Nacional, was released in 2013 by Deck Records, produced by Rafael Ramos. At the time, Chuck and Thadeu were joined by André Dea on drums and Flávio Guarnieri on bass. The album features standout tracks such as “Cobra de Vidro,” “Santa Sampa,” and “Não Sei o Que Fazer Comigo,” a Portuguese-language cover of a song by the Uruguayan band El Cuarteto de Nos.

In 2015, the group released the album Animal Nacional ao Vivo and the EP o o v o e n j a u l a d o. Their second studio album, Daqui Pro Futuro, was released in 2017, marking a phase in which Vespas Mandarinas began performing as a duo consisting of Chuck and Thadeu.

After Chuck Hipolitho left in June 2018, Thadeu Meneghini took over as the project’s leader alongside new musicians. In 2021, the group released the album Cala Boca Já Morreu (Live), recorded during performances in 2019. The recording features the lineup with Helena Papini on bass and Peu Lima on drums, as well as special guest appearances, such as that of Lucas Silveira (Fresno).

In June 2026, the band released the EP Polaroid, Vol. 1, a work that revisits compositions written in previous years and offers a reinterpretation of “Há Dez Anos Passados,” a classic by the band As Mercenárias.
