Beach House immerse “April Suzanne,” a song by American singer-songwriter Robert Lester Folsom, within their unmistakable dream pop universe.

The re-recording appears as a bonus track on the 50th-anniversary edition of Music and Dreams (1976), the only studio album released by the musician in the 1970s.

Born in Georgia in 1955, Folsom led the progressive rock band Abacus in the 1970s. He decided, however, to pursue a solo career and, in 1976, independently released the LP Music and Dreams. With a print run of just 1,000 copies, some of its tracks were even played on radio stations in Georgia and Florida.

He attempted to produce a second album, but financial and family problems cut short that dream, leading him to work full-time as a house painter.

Although he never completely abandoned music, his work remained virtually forgotten for decades.

Folsom was rediscovered in 2010, when the New York-based independent label Mexican Summer reissued Music and Dreams, introducing his work to a new generation of listeners.

Music and Dreams: 50th Anniversary Edition

Anthology Recordings, an independent label focused on reissuing rare and obscure albums, will release the 50th-anniversary edition of Music and Dreams on October 16. The material was restored by longtime collaborator Don Fleming and mastered by engineer Jessica Thompson, who was nominated for a Grammy in 2016 for her mastering work on the jazz band Erroll Garner’s album titled The Complete Concert By The Sea, originally released in 1955.

In addition to the digital release, the album will be available on double LP and CD, featuring 22 tracks that combine the remastered version of the album with the original demos recorded on reel-to-reel tape.

The digital edition also includes the version by Beach House’s version of “April Suzanne” and a reinterpretation of the main theme by indie-folk singer Hannah Cohen.
