Mani

Gary Mounfield, bassist for the Stone Roses, died today at the age of 63. The news was confirmed by his brother Greg, but without revealing the cause of death.

Also known as Mani, Mounfield was born on November 16, 1962, in Manchester. He joined the band in 1987. After the group disbanded in 1996, Mounfield joined Primal Scream until 2011, when he returned to the Stone Roses for their reunion tour.

Mani was also a member of the supergroup Freebass, which had three bassists—himself, Andy Rourke (The Smiths), and Peter Hook (Joy Division, New Order). Freebass released only one album, It's a Beautiful Life (2010).
