The Brazilian band Cachorro Grande was one of the great revelations of Rio Grande do Sul rock in the early 2000s. Formed in 1999 by Beto Bruno (vocals), Jerônimo Lima, "Bocudo" (bass, vocals), Marcelo Gross (guitars, vocals), and Gabriel Azambuja (drums), the group released their self-titled debut album in 2001, one of the great albums of Brazilian independent rock at that time. Among their influences was the hard rock of the 1960s/1970s. The songs "Lunático," "Sexperienced," and "Debaixo do Chapéu" were highlights of this work.

Their second album, As Próximas Horas Serão Muito Boas, was released in 2004 as a package insert in OutraCoisa magazine. Following that, in 2005, the band released the album Pista Livre on the Deckdisc label. Also in 2005, bassist Jerônimo Lima left the band, being replaced by Rodolfo Krieger.

In 2007, the album Todos os Tempos was released, produced by Rafael Ramos, who had previously produced Pista Livre. Cinema, the fifth studio album, arrived in 2009. The album Baixo Augusta was released in December 2011 in digital format and in February 2012 in CD and vinyl formats.

Cachorro Grande returned with a new album in 2014, when they released Costa do Marfim. The band's eighth studio album, titled Electromod, was released in 2016 by the label Coqueiro Verde Records. In 2018, Marcelo Gross left the band.
