Grouper

Known for her experimental, intimate, and ethereal sound, American artist Liz Harris, from Portland, Oregon, made her debut in 2005 with her solo project Grouper, independently releasing a self-titled album on CD-R. Moving between dark ambient, drone, dream pop, and post-rock, Harris has built a remarkable and revered discography within the alternative scene. Also in 2005, she released her first official album, Way Their Crept, on the Free Porcupine label, which was well-received by music critics.

The major turning point came in 2008 with Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill, an acclaimed album that appeared on numerous “best of the year” lists in publications such as Pitchfork, Stereogum, and Drowned in Sound.

Solidifying her reputation on the indie scene, Grouper later released the critically acclaimed The Man Who Died in His Boat (2013) and Ruins (October 2014).

In 2015, the artist expanded her work by joining the trio Helen, releasing the album The Original Faces. Returning to her main project, she released Grid of Points in 2018 and the album Shade, in 2021.
