The Grouper, a musical project by American composer, producer, and visual artist Liz Harris, will make its debut in Brazil. The show will take place on September 23, 2026, at 8:30 p.m., at Teatro Gamaro, located in the Mooca neighborhood of São Paulo. Tickets are now available on Sympla.
This debut in Brazil represents a rare opportunity to see one of the most private and influential figures in contemporary experimental music perform live. Grouper’s performances Grouper tend to emphasize silence, dim lighting, and immersion, with Harris combining vocals, guitar, piano, effects pedals, field recordings, and tape effects. Rather than simply reproducing their albums, their live shows create contemplative soundscapes in which the tracks seem to slowly emerge and fade away.
Formed in 2005, the Grouper became known for a sound that lies somewhere between ambient, psychedelic folk, drone, slowcore, and experimental music. Liz Harris uses minimalist melodies, almost whispered vocals, and dense layers of reverb to create hazy, melancholic, and intimate compositions. Her work explores themes such as memory, dreams, absence, nature, isolation, and the passage of time — an intuitive practice in which silences, imperfections, and accidental sounds become integral to the music itself.
