Adam Richard Wiles, better known by his stage name Calvin Harris, is a Scottish DJ, producer, singer, and songwriter, born on January 17, 1984, in Dumfries. Interested in electronic music since his teens, he began producing his first tracks at home, and in 2002, at age 18, he released the songs “Da Bongos” and “Brighter Days” under the pseudonym Stouffer.
In 2004, he featured on “Let Me Know,” a collaboration with Jordanian singer Ayah Marar. Two years later, after gaining attention with tracks posted on MySpace, he signed contracts with EMI and Sony BMG. His debut album, I Created Disco, was released in 2007 and featured a mix of disco, electroclash, synthpop, and new wave. Among the album’s main singles are “Acceptable in the 80s,” “The Girls,” and “Merrymaking at My Place.”
The second album, Ready for the Weekend, was released in 2009 and debuted at the top of the UK charts. The album included “I’m Not Alone”—her first single to reach number one in the UK—as well as the title track and “Flashback.”
Her international success was cemented with 18 Months (2012). Featuring collaborations with artists such as Rihanna, Ellie Goulding, Florence Welch, Ne-Yo, and Kelis; the album produced nine tracks in the UK Top 10, setting a record in the country. Among the biggest highlights are “Feel So Close,” “Sweet Nothing,” “I Need Your Love,” and “We Found Love,” the latter recorded with Rihanna.
In 2014, Harris released Motion, featuring collaborations with Gwen Stefani, Big Sean, Haim, and John Newman. The album featured hits such as “Summer,” “Blame,” and “Outside,” solidifying his position among the biggest names in electronic music and global pop.
Throughout his career, he has also written, produced, and remixed tracks for artists such as Kylie Minogue, Scissor Sisters, Dua Lipa, and Sam Smith. In addition to his studio albums, he has scored global hits such as “How Deep Is Your Love” (with the trio Disciples), “This Is What You Came For” (with Rihanna), “One Kiss” (with Dua Lipa), and “Promises” (with Sam Smith).
In 2017, he released Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, an album in which he replaced the explosive sound of EDM with influences from funk, disco, soul, and R&B, featuring guests such as Frank Ocean, Pharrell Williams, Ariana Grande, and Snoop Dogg. The follow-up, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2, was released in 2022 featuring 21 Savage, Dua Lipa, Justin Timberlake, and Halsey.
Between 2020 and 2021, the musician explored a less commercial direction by adopting the pseudonym Love Regenerator, focusing on 1990s house, techno, and rave music. In August 2024, he released the compilation 96 Months, which brings together his major singles released over the course of eight years.
