Singer China, also known as Chinaina, became known in the Brazilian pop music scene as the vocalist of the Pernambuco-based frevo-hardcore group Sheik Tosado, which was active between 1996 and 2001, and released the album Som de Caráter Urbano e de Salão in 1999 on the Trama label.

After the end of Sheik Tosado, China began his solo career with the EP Um só, released in 2004. This was followed by the albums Simulacro (2007), Moto contínuo (2011), and Telemática (2014).

His solo work shows influences from various genres, such as rock, surf music, Jovem Guarda (Brazilian pop music movement of the 1960s), and bossa nova. China was also known as a VJ for the defunct MTV Brasil.

After a long hiatus, a new album, Manual de Sobrevivência para Dias Mortos, arrived in 2019.
