Born in Manchester on October 31, 1963, John Martin Maher became known as Johnny Marr, the acclaimed guitarist for The Smiths. However, even with the end of the band in 1987, Marr remained active in the musical environment, including acting as a member of the groups Electronic, The The, Modest Mouse and The Cribs.

In 2002, the musician formed Johnny Marr + the Healers, a group that released the album Boomslang in 2003.

Between 2008 and 2011, Marr played with British band The Cribs. In 2012, he announced the release of his first solo album, which came out in February 2013, titled The Messenger. Its successor, Playland, was released in 2014.

In 2018, he released Call the Comet. His fourth album, Fever Dreams Pts. 1-4, arrived in 2022.
