Singer, songwriter, and pianist Anna Michaela Ebba Electra von Hausswolff was born on September 6, 1986, in Gothenburg, Sweden. Her first performances took place in 2008. Her debut EP, Track of Time, was released in February 2010. This was followed shortly after by Singing from the Grave, her first album.
With these early works, Anna von Hausswolff gained acclaim in the Swedish alternative music scene, receiving critical acclaim and comparisons to Kate Bush due to her expressive voice and music that blends styles such as art pop, ambient pop, drone, and gothic, creating intense and dark sonic atmospheres.
The singer released the album Ceremony in 2012 in Sweden. However, its international release only occurred in July 2013. In 2015, she released The Miraculous. During the recording of her 2018 album Dead Magic, she used an organ manufactured in the mid-20th century and located in a church in Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2020, All Thoughts Fly, the artist's fifth album, was released. A new work, Iconoclasts, was released in 2025, featuring collaborations with Iggy Pop, Abul Mogard, Ethel Cain, and her sister Maria von Hausswolff.
