São Paulo-based singer-songwriter Stela Campos has built a career in the Brazilian independent music scene marked by a blend of rock, pop, folk, and electronic experimentation.
In the 1990s, she was a member of Funziona Senza Vapore, a group that brought together musicians associated with Fellini. In 1994, he moved to Recife, where he revived the band Lara Hanouska and became involved in the manguebeat scene. During his time in the capital of Pernambuco, Stela contributed to the soundtrack of Baile Perfumado (1997), performing the title track, composed by Fred 04. She also recorded “Sabiá,” by Luiz Gonzaga and Zé Dantas, for the compilation Baião de Viramundo, a tribute to Gonzaga released in the late 1990s.
Her solo debut came with Céu de Brigadeiro (1999), an independent release produced in collaboration with Loop B. Well-received by critics, the album blended guitars and acoustic instruments with electronic beats and samples, establishing a musical language that would be further explored in subsequent works. The second album, Fim de Semana, was released in 2002 on the Outros Discos label, which also reissued their debut album in a remastered version.
Next came Hotel Continental (2005) and Mustang Bar (2009). On the latter, Stela placed greater emphasis on the guitars and a sound closer to that of her live performances, incorporating elements of psychedelia, folk, krautrock, and French pop.
In 2013, she released Dumbo, later revisited in Dumbo Reloaded (2015), a remix project curated by Érico Theobaldo, featuring artists such as Adriano Cintra and Aldo The Band. Her sixth studio album, Stela Campos (2018), explored influences from folk and chamber pop of the 1960s and 1970s.
Her collaboration with Theobaldo continued on “Never Enough” (2022), the opening theme for the series Vale dos Esquecidos, and in “Let’s Swim” (2026), composed for the film Quinze Dias. Also in 2026, the two released the album Anestesia, expanding a collaboration that began more than two decades earlier and deepening the dialogue between song, electronic music, and cinema.
