Is Elastica back? That’s the question that’s been hanging in the air since July 31, when the band posted a message hinting at a possible comeback: “Missed us? We’ve been busy behind the scenes, but we’re back. Keep your eyes peeled, there are some exciting things in the works.”
Given that the group left us with memorable hits in the 1990s, such as “Connection,” “Stutter,” and “Waking Up,” a return to the stage would be a natural move for a band that was at the heart of the Britpop boom.
Led by Justine Frischmann, Elastica achieved massive success with their self-titled debut album, released in 1995. However, the band disbanded in 2001, following the release of their second album, The Menace (2000), which fell far short of matching the commercial and critical impact of their previous work.
