Broadcast

The band from the city of Birmingham, England, Broadcast consisted of Trish Kennan (vocals), Roj Stevens (keyboards), Tim Felton (guitar), James Cargill (bass) and Steve Perkins (drums) in its first line-up, which began in 1995. Electronic and post-rock, Broadcast's music, which has sometimes been compared to that of Stereolab due to the fact that it combines elements of experimental pop music from the 60s with futuristic elements, was well received on their debut album, The Noise Made by People, released in 2000 by Warp Records. Previously, in 1997, the band had released a compilation of their first singles, entitled Work and Non-Work.

In 2003, the group, now without a permanent drummer, released their second album, Haha Sound. The band returned with a new studio album - Tender Buttons - in 2005, when its lineup was reduced to two members — Keenan and Cargill.

Broadcast and The Focus Group Investigate Witch Cults of the Radio Age, an album the band released in collaboration with The Focus Group, came out in 2009.

On January 14, 2011, vocalist Trish Kennan passed away at the age of 42, due to complications from pneumonia caused by the H1N1 virus, contracted during a tour in Australia.

In 2024, Warp Records released Spell Blanket – Collected Demos 2006–2009, a compilation of songs recorded between 2006 and 2009 and drawn from Trish Keenan's archive of four-track tapes and MiniDiscs. These recordings were intended for a future studio album by the band, which did not exist due to Kennan's death. Also, in 2024 a second compilation arrived, Distant Call - Collected Demos 2000-2006, bringing together demos of songs included on the albums Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon.
