Empire of the Sun

Empire of the Sun is an Australian duo specializing in synthpop and electronic music, formed in 2007 by Luke Steele (of the band The Sleepy Jackson) and Nick Littlemore (a member of PNAU). Known for their sound rich in distinctive synthesizers, catchy pop melodies, and danceable beats, the project also stands out worldwide for its extravagant costumes, conceptual visuals, and the fantastical aesthetic that permeates their music videos and live performances.

Released in 2008, the duo’s debut album, Walking on a Dream, achieved rapid success and international recognition, driven by the iconic title track and the hit “We Are the People.” In 2013, the duo released their second studio album, Ice on the Dune, which spawned the singles “Alive” and “DNA”. Next came Two Vines (2016), featuring the standout track “High and Low.”

After an eight-year hiatus between studio albums — a period during which Steele and Littlemore focused on other projects— Empire of the Sun returned in July 2024 with Ask That God, their fourth album, promoted by tracks such as “Changes,” “Music on the Radio,” and “Cherry Blossom.”
