With their music associated with genres such as noise rock and post-hardcore, McLusky gained great notoriety in the history of indie rock with their second album, McLusky Do Dallas, released in 2002. The band was often compared to groups such as Pixies and The Jesus Lizard.

Formed in 1999 in Wales by Andrew Falkous (vocals, guitar), Jonathan Chapple (bass) and Matthew Harding (drums), the group released their first album, My Pain and Sadness Is More Sad and Painful Than Yours, in 2000 on the Fuzzbox label.

They then signed with the Too Pure label and teamed up with Steve Albini to produce their second album. Released in April in the UK and September 2002 in the US, McLusky Do Dallas received critical acclaim. The album later appeared on several best-of-that-decade lists by publications such as Pitchfork Media.

In 2003, Harding left the band, being replaced by Jack Egglestone. The following year, their third album, The Difference Between Me and You Is That I'm Not on Fire., was released. The band disbanded in 2005.

A compilation entitled Mcluskyism, featuring singles, b-sides, rarities and live tracks, was released in 2006.

McLusky returned in 2020 for a tour, celebrating the 20th anniversary of McLusky Do Dallas. The band's reunion generated new music, which was released on The World Is Still Here and So Are We, their fourth album, due out in 2025.
