The Prodigy is one of the most influential groups in electronic music and one of the leading figures of the big beat movement in the 1990s, a genre that gained enormous popularity alongside artists such as The Chemical Brothers, Fatboy Slim and Basement Jaxx.
Formed in 1990 in Braintree, Essex (England), by Liam Howlett (keyboards and composition), Keith Flint (vocals and dance), Maxim (MC and vocals), and Leeroy Thornhill (dance and keyboards), the group made its debut with the dynamic album Experience (1992). Their international success was cemented with Music for the Jilted Generation (1994), which topped the British charts and was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize.
In 1997, they released The Fat of the Land, an absolute commercial and critical milestone in electronic music, driven by hits such as "Firestarter" and "Breathe." In 1999, Leeroy Thornhill left the band to pursue a solo career.
After a hiatus from studio albums, the band returned with Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004), followed by Invaders Must Die (2009) and The Day Is My Enemy (2015). The group’s seventh studio album, No Tourists, was released in November 2018.
On March 4, 2019, iconic lead singer and dancer Keith Flint was found dead at his home in Essex, sending shockwaves through the music world. Despite this devastating loss, Liam Howlett and Maxim decided to keep the group alive, returning to the stage with international tours starting in 2022 to keep the legacy of The Prodigy alive.
