While the future of Sonic Youth remains a mystery, its leader Thurston Moore has just announced the formation of a new band, called Chelsea Light Moving. The exact date is not yet known, but they will soon release their first studio album through Matador Records.
In addition to Moore, the quartet is made up of guitarist Keith Wood, bassist Samara Lubelski and drummer John Moloney.
The official Matador blog (better known as Matablog) stated that Moore's main inspiration for forming this band was William S. Burroughs. The guitarist and vocalist thought he should form a band to play 'Burroughs rock' after sitting in the writer's garden in Lawrence, Kansas.
The first song on this new album, reveals Matador, is called "Burroughs" and can be downloaded for free here or heard below. The song was recorded this year in Massachusetts.
In addition to this new band, Moore will also release a collaborative album with Yoko Ono and Kim Gordon, also from Sonic Youth, on September 25th. The album will be called "YOKOKIMTHURSTON" and will be released through Chimera Music.
