Gossip was formed in 1999 in the city of Searcy, Arkansas. However, at the beginning of his career he moved to Olympia, Washington. With Beth Ditto (vocalist), Brace Paine (guitar) and Kathy Mendonca (drums), the band released the albums That's Not What I Heard (2001) and Movement (2003) on the Kill Rock Stars label. 

At the beginning of their career, the trio was called The Gossip. But then he eliminated The. 

Flirting with punk, soul, disco, R&B, garage rock, the band was one of the names that stood out most in the alternative scene of the 2000s.

In 2003, drummer Kathy Mendonca left Gossip, and Hannah Blilie joined in her place. Standing in the Standing in the Way of Control, their third studio album, arrived in 2006, bringing the hits "Standing in the Way of Control" and "Listen Up!". In 2009, the band released Music for Men, their fourth studio album. 

Gossip returned in 2012 with A Joyful Noise. In 2016, Beth Ditto announced the band's separation. However, in 2019, the band returned to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Music for Men. In 2024, twelve years after A Joyful Noise, a new studio album was released, titled Real Power.
