Hot Chip

Formed in London in the early 2000s by Alexis Taylor and Joe Goddard, Hot Chip made a name for themselves on the alternative pop scene by combining synthpop, house, disco, and indie rock with sentimental lyrics and a quirky sense of humor. Among their early works are the EP Mexico, released in 2001 on the Victory Garden Records label, and Sanfrandisco E-Pee, from 2002.

Their debut album, Coming on Strong, was released in 2004. During this period, the lineup expanded with the addition of Owen Clarke, Felix Martin, and Al Doyle. After signing a contract with DFA Records, a label co-founded by James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem), the group released The Warning in 2006. Driven by songs like “Over and Over” and “Boy from School,” the album cemented the band’s international reputation and earned them a Mercury Prize nomination.

Their third album, Made in the Dark, was released in 2008 and featured one of Hot Chip’s biggest hits, “Ready for the Floor,” which was nominated for a Grammy for Best Dance Recording. Next came One Life Stand (2010), In Our Heads (2012) and Why Make Sense? (2015), works that further explored the blend of danceable electronic music, pop melodies, and Alexis Taylor’s delicate voice.

On A Bath Full of Ecstasy, released in June 2019, Hot Chip worked for the first time with outside producers: Philippe Zdar, a member of Cassius, and Rodaidh McDonald. Their eighth studio album, Freakout/Release, was released in 2022, maintaining the group’s characteristic balance between euphoria, melancholy, and electronic experimentation.

In 2025, Hot Chip celebrated 25 years of music with the compilation Joy in Repetition, which brought together standout tracks from their discography and featured the previously unreleased “Devotion.” The cover was designed by British artist Peter Blake, known for his work on Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, by the Beatles.
