Swedish singer-songwriter José González, born in Gothenburg in 1978, carries a strong multicultural heritage: he is the son of Argentinian immigrants who left the country after the 1976 coup d'état. His discography began in 2003 with the acclaimed album Veneer.
González's sound is often described as minimalist indie folk, characterized by virtuoso fingerpicking on the guitar and smooth vocals. His main influences include Nick Drake, João Gilberto, Elliott Smith, and the Cuban singer Silvio Rodriguez.
José González released In Our Nature, his second album, in 2007. A new studio album by the singer, Vestiges & Claws, came out in 2015. In 2021, he released Local Valley.
Against the Dying of the Light, his fifth album, arrived in 2026.
