Brett Anderson

The English singer-songwriter Brett Anderson, born Brett Lewis Anderson on September 29, 1967, became known as the lead singer and co-founder of Suede. As a teenager, he played in garage bands such as The Pigs and Geoff. In the latter, he shared the stage with bassist Mat Osman, with whom he would go on to form Suede in 1989. The original lineup also included guitarist Justine Frischmann, who later left the group to form Elastica.

With his androgynous look, striking stage presence, and lyrics that explore desire, loneliness, and urban life, Anderson established himself as one of the most iconic figures of 1990s British rock. As the frontman of Suede, he helped pave the way for Britpop, although the band’s musical identity extends beyond the boundaries of the movement. Between 1993 and 2002, the group released five studio albums, including Suede (1993), Dog Man Star (1994) and Coming Up (1996).

After Suede went on hiatus in 2003, Anderson reunited with guitarist Bernard Butler, who had left the band in 1994. Together, they formed The Tears and released the album Here Come the Tears (2005).

In 2007, the singer began his solo career with the album Brett Anderson. This was followed by Wilderness (2008), Slow Attack (2009) and Black Rainbows (2011), works in which he explored different combinations of rock, acoustic arrangements, and chamber instrumentation.
