Silversun Pickups

Formed in 2000 in Los Angeles, the Silversun Pickups solidified their lineup two years later with Brian Aubert (guitar and vocals), Nikki Monninger (bass and vocals), Christopher Guanlao (drums), and Joe Lester (keyboards). The quartet’s sound blends alternative rock, indie rock, and shoegaze, drawing influences from artists such as My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, The Smashing Pumpkins and The Velvet Underground.

In July 2005, the band released their first EP, Pikul. The following year saw the release of their debut album, Carnavas, driven by tracks like “Lazy Eye” and “Well Thought Out Twinkles.” Between 2006 and 2007, the group expanded its international reach by opening for acts such as OK Go, Snow Patrol, Foo Fighters and Kaiser Chiefs.

The second album, Swoon (2009), featured the single “Panic Switch” as its standout track. In 2012, the quartet released Neck of the Woods, produced by Jacknife Lee, known for his work with R.E.M., Snow Patrol and Bloc Party. Lee collaborated with the band again on Better Nature (2015).

Produced by Butch Vig, Widow’s Weeds, the group’s fifth studio album, was released in June 2019. The collaboration continued on Physical Thrills (2022), marked by a broader approach that combined distinctive guitars with electronic elements and experimental atmospheres.

In February 2026, Silversun Pickups released their seventh album, Tenterhooks. Once again produced by Butch Vig, the album features distorted guitars and ethereal melodies.
