Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Yeah Yeah Yeahs were formed in New York in 2000 by Karen O (vocals), Nick Zinner (guitar and keyboards), and Brian Chase (drums). The trio emerged during the New York rock scene’s boom in the early 2000s alongside bands such as The Strokes, Interpol and TV on the Radio, part of a generation associated with the resurgence of garage rock and post-punk.

With a sound that blends garage rock, art punk, noise, and references to dance music, the band quickly gained attention, driven by Karen O’s intense and theatrical stage presence. Their self-titled debut EP, released in 2001, featured five tracks and made a big splash on the alternative scene. The following year, the trio released the EP Machine.

Their first studio album, Fever to Tell, was released in 2003 and catapulted the band to international fame, driven by tracks like “Maps,” “Date with the Night,” and “Y Control.” The second album, Show Your Bones, was released in 2006, followed by the 2007 EP Is Is.

In 2009, Yeah Yeah Yeahs expanded their musical sound on It’s Blitz!, incorporating synthesizers and elements of disco and dance-rock on tracks like “Zero” and “Heads Will Roll.” The album was produced by Nick Launay and Dave Sitek (a member of TV on the Radio). Sitek also co-produced Mosquito, the trio’s fourth studio album, released in 2013.

During the interval between Mosquito and their next album, Karen O released her solo album Crush Songs (2014) and collaborated with Danger Mouse on Lux Prima (2019).

After nine years without a new studio album, the band returned in 2022 with Cool It Down. Produced by Dave Sitek, Justin Raisen, and Andrew Wyatt, the album featured a more atmospheric and cinematic sound, highlighted by the single “Spitting Off the Edge of the World,” recorded with Perfume Genius. The album received a Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album.

In September 2026, the band digitally released Hidden in Pieces: Live at the Royal Albert Hall, a recording of a performance held in London in 2025, accompanied by a short film directed by Barnaby Clay.
